Outliver: Tribulation

Outliver: Tribulation is a third-person survival-horror action game with Souls-like combat and settings drawn from African mythology, including Yoruba tradition. It was made and published by GBROSSOFT, a small studio in Lagos, Nigeria, and came out on Windows through Steam on July 18, 2023[1]. It is also sold on the Epic Games Store[2]. Epic gave it away free for a week, from October 10 to October 17, 2024[3][4]. Android and iOS versions followed. The title is sometimes misheard or misremembered as “Outlive Retribution”. That is not a separate game: it means Outliver: Tribulation.

Bitcoin Obama played Outliver: Tribulation on Cryptoiscrack's Crypto Craic YouTube channel, because it is a Nigerian game. The playthrough, “Nigerian Gaming Episode 1”, was released on YouTube on Feb 24, 2026 and promoted on [X]. See Bitcoin Obama's playthrough below.

The 21-minute video, titled “Outliver: Tribulation”, went up on the Crypto Craic YouTube channel on Feb 24, 2026[5][6]. It is a YouTube-only release: it was not published on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. See The Crypto Craic Podcast.

Gameplay and story

The player controls Bolanle Gboyega, a soldier on the run from insurgents who ends up in the Realm of Tribulations, a supernatural world where she has to complete an ancient ritual to get back to her own realm, “or so she believes”[1]. The store pages describe an atmospheric, story-driven third-person shooter that mixes survival-horror and Souls-like combat. Bolanle explores the realm, fights its creatures, meets voiced characters, solves riddles, uses charms in combat, upgrades her gear, puts on night-vision goggles in the dark and travels by teleportation portals[2]. The 21 Epic achievements include names from Yoruba tradition, such as “Orisha Oya's Essence” and “Sangodele”.

Development

GBROSSOFT released a free demo on itch.io in November 2019[7]. In March 2022 the studio received an Epic MegaGrant from Epic Games, which it later called the project's only real funding break, and at the time it said the game had also been approved for Xbox[8]. That year the game moved from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 and came back with upgraded visuals and a new demo[9].

In a postmortem published in October 2023, the team described itself as three self-taught developers from Lagos State. They had started the project in 2019, reused environment assets to save time, and the project lead had composed the music[10].

It ran for one week, from 10:00 AM CDT on October 10 to 10:00 AM CDT on October 17, 2024, alongside Empyrion – Galactic Survival, and anyone who claimed it in that window kept it permanently[3][11]. The full title is Outliver: Tribulation. Some stores and articles write Outliver: Tribulations (the Epic URL uses “outliver-tribulations”). The phrase “Outlive Retribution” is a mishearing; the addresses /outliveretribution and /outlive-retribution on this wiki redirect here.
