Bitcoin village (Sproto Street and the Sproto wells)

The Bitcoin village is the community's name for the places in Nigeria where Sproto Gremlins, the HarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu ($BITCOIN) mascots, are painted on walls and water tanks. The two projects are Sproto Street, a run of street walls covered in holders' Sprotos, and the Sproto wells, community boreholes whose tanks carry Sproto and HPOS10I paintings and plaques. Both were organized by Bitcoin Mandela, a Nigerian member of the $BITCOIN community, and paid for by holders who sent ETH. Bitcoin Obama did not run them, but he cheered the 2023 well drive (“I love this project”) and the community often jokes that the wells are his.

Sproto Street

In September 2023 Bitcoin Mandela began selling spots on a street wall in Nigeria where holders could have their own Sproto Gremlin painted, and said he was buying the street name to call it “SPROTO STREET”. Painting continued through October 2023, when he called Sprotos “the people’s guardian” and the wall “the legendary Nigerian Sproto wall”, then spread to other walls and a warehouse. In July 2026 he revived it as the “Sproto Street Chronicles”, painting new “Immortals” into the last open spots, and dated Day One to July 22, 2023. Asked by Morelight where else a Sproto Street exists, he answered “Only NIGERIA”.

The Sproto wells

The water project grew out of the same circle. On Oct 6, 2023 Yannix wrote that the community had helped Bitcoin Mandela raise 2 ETH “to build a DEMON-FREE water pump” (a nod to the Tinubu demons), and that another member, 0xSonicAD, had a separate plan for three mechanical wells in Kano State. Bitcoin Obama replied “I love this project”. A holder billed the drive as bringing water “to everyone in Sproto Village”.

The first well was at Onipanu village: on Oct 13, 2023 Bitcoin Mandela posted that a marble plaque had been mounted and the “HPOS10I and Sproto guardian of Onipanu village” painted. The third borehole followed at Igbo ile village in November 2023, with a tank reading “Not the Government”. He set a goal of ten wells and later of beating MrBeast's 100. By March 2024 he listed the villages served and thanked the HPOS10I account, Yannix and others; in October 2024 he celebrated a 50th water project. In December 2025 he went back to the first well and reported it still in use, “All thanks to #harrypotterobamasonic10inu $Bitcoin community”.

Later projects

Bitcoin Mandela has kept building wells with donors from other Web3 communities, posting each village by name in April 2026. In October 2026 he wrote that his people had nominated him to represent them in government, crediting “the Ticker $Bitcoin Community”, and posted the commissioning of a water well and toilet attended by “our gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulrahman Oriyomi Hamzat”. The posts do not name the state.

Connection to Bitcoin Obama

Bitcoin Obama is not credited in Bitcoin Mandela's posts as an organizer or funder. In the same week as the first well drive he was asking the community for money to “do Available Water in my village” and to buy a water drilling machine. In 2025 the community began attributing the wells to him as a joke: Cryptoiscrack told Kanye West to “get a drink from the sproto well in the bitcoin village” with Bitcoin Obama, and another holder wrote that Obama had “funded the construction of 10 water wells in Nigeria” and was the father of Morelight. Neither claim is supported by the organizers' own posts.

Yannix has also said that the history of the Bitcoin Mandela accounts is “VERY complicated”, and that a second Bitcoin Mandela account did water wells for another community. This page follows the posts of @MandelaBTC only.
