Nigeria, officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria and known informally as Naija, is a country in West Africa and the most populous country in Africa. Its capital is Abuja and its largest city is Lagos^[1]. It is also the home country of Bitcoin Obama, the Nigerian crypto shiller known since May 2023 for promoting the meme coin HarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu ($BITCOIN). Obama says he lives in Kano, and almost every campaign he runs on X is pitched as a way to help Nigeria. As of October 2026 his X bio read “Fighting crypto scams in Nigeria. Candidate for the 11th Nigerian Assembly Delegation Representative”.

The country

Nigeria is a federal republic of 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, which holds Abuja. Abuja replaced Lagos as the capital in December 1991, but Lagos is still the country's commercial centre. Hundreds of ethnic groups live in Nigeria. The largest are the Hausa and Fulani in the north, the Yoruba in the south-west and the Igbo in the south-east. English is the official language, and Nigerian Pidgin is spoken widely. The currency is the naira, and the president since May 29, 2023 has been Bola Tinubu^[1]. See Nigerians for the people and culture.

Nigeria is one of the world's most active crypto markets. In 2021 the Central Bank of Nigeria told banks to stop serving crypto exchanges, and it launched a central-bank digital currency, the eNaira, that October. It lifted the banking restriction in December 2023^[2]. That background makes the “Nigerian crypto shiller” a familiar figure online, and Bitcoin Obama plays on it.

Nigeria in Bitcoin Obama's posts

Bitcoin Obama introduced himself on his second account, in June 2023, with “I am the future president of Nigeria”^[3]. Since then Nigeria has been the setting of almost every bit:

• The coin as national salvation. “The Nigerian people are love Ticker Bitcoin”, he wrote in July 2023^[4], and in October 2023 he called $OBX “the next Nigeria currency”^[5]. He marked May 30, 2024 as exactly one year of “advertisement of BITCOIN in Africa”^[6]. In November 2024 he called $OBAMA “the greatest project in crypto history that will help the nigerian ppl”^[7].
• Charity promises. Nearly every coin is meant to cure the malaria, end poverty or bring clean water. In September 2024 he wrote that “Most of people in Nigeria who live in villages are use contaminated water” and that $obama would build wells^[8]. The holder-funded Sproto wells, painted with Sproto Gremlins, were the one version that was actually built.
• Politics. He has run, in jokes, for president of Nigeria, for “MAYOR OF ABUJA” (for a donation of 2 ETH)^[9] and for “the 11th assembly representative of the Nigerian National Assembly delegation of Kano”^[10]. The forces said to be working against him are the Tinubu demons, named after the president. See President.
• Gatekeeping. In April 2024 he declared that “Any project came from Africa especially Nigeria 🇳🇬 without my approval it’s scam”^[11].
• Make Nigeria Great Again. In August 2026 he promised “free medicine in Nigeria” and said it was “Time to make Nigeria Great again”^[12]. In September he announced a “Big launch to make NIGERIA GREAT AGAIN”^[13].

Places

• Kano, in the north, is the city on his X profiles and in his assembly run.
• Abuja, the capital, is where he once ran for mayor. In May 2026 he told a follower “I am in Abuja”^[14].
• Lagos, the largest city, is home to several members of the Nigerian “Bitcoin” crew, including Bitcoin Robin Williams, Bitcoin Druski and Adeleke the Nigerian. It is also home to Gbrossoft, the studio behind the Nigerian video game Outliver: Tribulation, which Bitcoin Obama played on the Crypto Craic YouTube channel in “Nigerian Gaming Episode 1” (Feb 2026).
